Salt Lake City Monument EMC Retrofit
An existing masonry monument was structurally sound but carried a manual readerboard nobody had time to change. We kept the stone and replaced the message.
The Challenge
The problem: a good structure with the wrong face
Replacing the whole monument would have meant demolition, new excavation, new masonry and — critically — re-approval under current setback rules the existing sign was grandfathered against. The base was fine. Only the readerboard was obsolete.
The Solution
What we built
We audited the internal framing and the electrical service, upgraded the circuit, fabricated custom trim and a weatherproof filler cabinet to close out the old readerboard opening, and set a full-colour module array in its place. The masonry was untouched and the existing foundation carried the new load with bracing added inside the cabinet.
- Existing masonry, cladding and foundation fully preserved
- Structural and internal framing audit before any fabrication
- Dedicated circuit and breaker upgrade to current code
- Custom trim and weatherproof filler cabinet closing the legacy opening
- Grandfathered setback position retained by not relocating the structure
